If you’ve dreamed of operating Backhoes and Excavators since you were a kid, a job as a Heavy Equipment Operator may be for you. Your training will allow you to develop the knowledge and skill set to operate equipment in a safe and effective manner, and perform other related duties such as routine maintenance and inspections as needed.

The ideal Heavy Equipment Operator is precise, detail oriented, and able to follow directions closely. They also need to display mechanical aptitude, good hand-eye coordination and the ability to operate the valves, levers, handwheels and other controls on the machines. Depending on the program you decide to enrol in to, our aim is to graduate a highly skilled and versatile HE Machinery Operator.

What can I drive with this Certificate?

Heavy Equipment Operators from our training program will be certified on the following pieces of machinery:

  • Front End Loader
  • Back Hoe
  • Excavator

What Does this Course Cover?

This course covers the basic safety and operating procedures for operating Heavy Equipment Machinery in Ontario. Based on your level of knowledge and experience, our Heavy Equipment course  prepares students for all the various facets of working on a construction site.

Including the following areas:

  • Vehicle Inspections
  • Safety Inspections
  • Defensive Driving
  • Regulatory and legal requirements
  • Highway Driving
  • Safety Requirements
  • Emergency Procedures

Training Option A

Approved as a vocational program under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.

Our 8 week course will teach you about the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment machines such as the excavator, backhoe and front-end loader. Our course was designed by industry professionals with an emphasis on hands on practical training that will provide you with the full knowledge to operate advanced heavy machines with full confidence in the field.

Course Duration: 8 Weeks
Course Tuition: $9,999.00
Equipment Included: Backhoe, Excavator, and Front End Loader

Training Option B

Applicants with previous knowledge or experience may opt into obtaining their Heavy Equipment Operator’s Certificate for a single piece of machinery: Backhoe, Excavator or Front Loader.

Competent operators must know not only how to operate the particular class of equipment to which they have been assigned but also be aware of hazards associated with the work they have been asked to do.

They will be able to operate equipment in a manner that protects both their own safety and the safety of others in the their workplace.

  • General safety inspection and maintenance
  • Assessment of load-handling capacity
  • Competence of person doing load-handling assessment
  • Inspection Frequency
  • Routine Record keeping
  • Operator Competence
  • Operating Procedures
  • Hazard Identification
  • Vigilance Training (Operators and those working near equipment)

Course Duration: 2.5 Weeks
Hours: 35 Hours
Course Tuition: $4200 + Tax = $4746.00

This program does not require approval under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005

Prior to initiating training all students are required to provide a medical form completed by a registered Ontario physician

Training Option C

Individualized training is available for those operators with prior experience. This option is perfect for those who are looking for a quick refresher course or training prior to a job interview or skills assessment at work.

Each Training Session for Heavy Equipment: $250.00 + Tax = $282.50

What do I need before I can begin?

  • Prior to initiating training all students are required to provide a medical form completed by a registered Ontario physician
  • An Ontario Secondary School Diploma or/ be 18 years of age and have above grade 10 accreditation.
  • If proof of minimum education requirements is not available, an aptitude test must be completed prior to registration.
